The trick to migraine cocktails is giving the Benadryl FIRST. Then you hit em with the Reglan and Toradol. Signed, a nurse and chronic migraine sufferer that takes antidepressants and isn’t trying to give other people OR myself extrapyramidal symptoms ✌️

Girl, did you know some units have actual Zosyn shakers?! Meanwhile, we’re over here mixing ours like we’re bartenders.

I was given ketamine for a seriously messed up back last year. It was awesome for about 15 minutes, then I came back down to earth and was in pain again. Big disappointment.

I lowkey love giving migraine cocktails because I feel like they’re literal magic and I love watching the relief on my patients faces after it’s all done infusing. Don’t like the Reglan or compazine part though.

oooo I actually cringe when you said IV potassium
I'm always low Everytime I end up in the hospital and it usually takes like four to five bags of it
to get me somewhat normal
it truly feels like acid in your veins

As a patient, dilaudid was fantastic for when I had appendicitis. Fentanyl didn’t touch the pain even after multiple doses. After a half dose of dilaudid I finally was able to stop crying and could stand up and prep myself for surgery independently!

They need to go back to putting lidocaine in potassium IVs, it helps so freaking much. And dilauded can be very helpful depending on the situation

May I ask about the dilaudid? I was given it after a long surgery while being wheeled into recovery and was still begging to die from pain so the anesthesiologist maxed me out on it before I felt better. Just curious on how it treats others?
