Mummering (also called janneying or mumming) is a traditional Christmas-time house-visiting custom. During the 12 days of Christmas (December 26 to January 6), groups of friends or family dress in quirky, improvised, or bizarre disguises, mismatched clothes, stuffed pillows, pillowcases over their heads, or lace curtains. They go door-to-door in their neighborhoods and ask, "Any mummers 'lowed in?" If welcomed inside, the mummers perform informal dances, sing, play homemade instruments (like the ugly stick), or tell jokes. The hosts must guess the identities of the disguised visitors while the mummers try to trick them by disguising their voices, like speaking while inhaling. Once the hosts successfully guess who is who, the masks come off, and everyone shares food, music, and drinks. Non-singing Non-Alcoholic Mari Lwyd I guess
