It’s because the body will be out of refrigeration for up to 2 days. This is going to make the process of embalming more complex. They don’t want to be guaranteeing results for an open casket after nature will have been hard at work against them for 48 hours. Honestly, prepare yourself for perhaps not ideal results of the embalming. This is not meant to be harsh, just reality.

Unfortunately, It's mainly the embalming process for the open casket. FD/Funeral homes take pride in embalming/restoring. If not damn near perfect, imagery remains during these moments. I'm glad A Woman is willing to do her best for your family. Blessings. My heart is with you 🤎

I am in the process of becoming a death doula. They recommend that families keep their loved one home for awhile-24 hours at least, instead of rushing to take them away. That is sacred time that you will spend with him. I’m so thankful you found someone to honor your wishes.

I would bet real money that the other funeral homes only said no because you’re *choosing* to have him home for a couple days. As in, if for some reason, a person passed and wasn’t found for a day or two but they were still able to be prepared for a viewing, they’d do it no questions asked 🙄. They only said no because they disagree with your decision, which is ridiculous.

To me that is ridiculous. Often people pass in their home and are not found right away and they provide service to those people. I’m so happy you were able to find a place to help with your wishes ❤️❤️❤️

France here my grand pa passed away at hospital we asked a thanatopraxy? on him and he was back at home for 3 days.. then put on the casket at home to fo at the church

I’m a mortician and we have waited at least 12 hours for a family. Person died at 5am and we didn’t get there till like 4pm. It’s possible and I hate to hear they wouldn’t honor that wish

In Guatemala, when one passes, they stay in the home until the burial (usually 2-3 days after) and the family and town walk/carry the deceased straight to the grave site.
