PHP has patched two critical vulnerabilities that can allow attackers to run code without logging in. Both are rated 9.2/10 under CVSS 4.0. CVE-2026-109618 involves unsafe handling of memory-allocation failures. CVE-2026-109619 involves stale internal state surviving between requests handled by the same worker. The PHP team identifies Apache mod_php as the highest-risk demonstrated scenario, including an attack that can trigger before application code runs. Other web-serving PHP installations are also in scope, but exploitability depends on the deployment, configuration and application. This is not evidence that every PHP website has been compromised. On October 21, NSA Cyber urged organizations to prepare to update, recommending taking systems offline if an immediate update was not feasible. The patches are now available: PHP 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27 and 8.5.12. Some distributions backport fixes, so check your vendor's security advisory rather than relying only on the upstream version number. For business owners: ask your hosting provider or IT team whether your running PHP services have the complete fixes. Temporary configuration changes are not a substitute for the full security update. Public advance notice appeared October 20; the coordinated release was October 21. The research predates today's announcement. We are not claiming confirmed widespread exploitation. Practical technology insights for better business decisions: https://ingerios.com Sources: PHP security team; php/php-src GitHub advisories; PHP Foundation; @NSACyber on X.
