@chris_thedailycyclist: Another child has tragically lost his life on an e-bike in the Houston area. Helmets matter. Laws matter. But parental responsibility matters too. Before we demand more laws, are we making sure our kids know how to safely operate the bikes we’re buying them? This isn’t about blaming a grieving family. It’s about preventing the next tragedy. Parents, we have to do our part. #ebikesafety #parentingtips #houston #roadsafety #emoto
I get torn about ebikes. On one hand, it makes cycling more accessible which could mean more bikes and fewer cars on the streets. On the other hand, I think if you want to go more than 20mph then your heart rate should be elevated.

e bikes and e scooters should only be for those that hold drivers licenses. If not, we risk more incidents and worse, a cheap accessible form of micromobility taken away from people who need it day to day.

That's what I've been saying. these kids never had regular bicycles so they never had to learn the rules of the road and then they give them what is basically just a motorcycle with no instruction

The only way to stop it is to make them illegal to buy and sell unless over 18

my kid got really lucky, as a daily rider I always rode with her to teach her how to ride on the roads. that's the easiest thing to do, ride with your kids!

my opinion, the parents need to teach kids rules on the road, and doing a demo. second opinion, a license for a e-bike, wouldn't be too expensive, but it would help to regulate how much cc a bike can have, let's say, the higher the cc, the higher cost of the license

Agreed, how about good old fashion training certs if not licenses? There are too many dopy cyclist already out there who dont know rules or have manners. Now we put motors on the bikes and ...well you said the rest.

14 15 16 they fly down a two-lane road and you can't see them until they're in front of you.
they're very small on the road you can hear them you can't see them until they're in front of you.
no lights no bright clothes. they do not realize that a lot of people are tired from working all day and a lot of people I say to eat the best in the world. it suggests a matter of time before one gets hit.
I drive down the road with my least one window crack so I can hear what's coming.

I am going to say a large number of all cyclist fall to follow the rules of the road especially when riding in a group of 2 or more. I think we need to have some difficult conversations with all cyclist and enforcement with tickets and if needed court dates.

I bought my daughter an ebike. I built it, and I make sure it's maintained, especially the brakes. I've also bought pretty inexpensive high reflective stickers, and put them all over her bike and helmet.

In pretty sure in my city they don’t even need licenses. I’m so confused because why do you need one for a gas bike but not for an e-bike!?
