It’s weird because Netflix used to be considered the crème de la crème of streaming and now it’s just one step away from being an alternative to verticals. No shade to verticals but you know what I mean.

Netflix attempt at explaining everything to the audience is its downfall and it’s producing quantity over quality. So people are not watching season two of their stuff. Nothing’s giving on that streaming service.

Check out the the If Books Could Kill pod episode on the book Who Moved My Cheese? You’ll get such a helpful history on where we are at with layoffs. I agree, they need to be shamed.

When companies are not profitable, they typically go bankrupt.

They also do the keeper test - which means at any time your boss has to say they would do anything to keep you and would hire you again for more. If they can't answer that they are to drop you. I know several people who were dropped by leads who seemed they felt like they had to do this to show that they are doing their best job etc..

Their problem is/was trying to be a movie studio with a tech companies mentality😂😂😂 The scary thing is so many other studios went the route they did and see them as some sort of standard in streaming instead of making their own paths

So true about how quick you forget about them. If I miss the window of ppl talking about a show then I rarely go and watch it. And also keep getting invested in decent shows that take 2 years for more episodes to come out or get cancelled

It says a lot that if you asked me “why I have netflix” and “what do I watch on it?” And my answers right now are: Seinfeld and Breaking Bad

I mean venture capital has been trying to dismantle the entertainment industry for decades now and it feels like they finally done it. And considering that Hollywood is our most potent and important, global cultural export. It seems kind of insane that we allowed it to happen.

right before their quarterly earnings call too. Netflix seems to be desperate for a “story” to tell Wall Street. since the industry caught up on the streaming game, the disruptor narrative has fizzled out. ad tiers, password crackdowns, and price hikes will only get you so far. they have to find a way to catch the zeitgeist again 🤷

we need to make mass layoffs a criminal offense for whichever board makes that decision. like, I'm sorry, your poor leadership got ONE THOUSAND PEOPLE laid off? jail, mfer!

Netflix is not only issue in Hollywood but they fucked all other parts of the world. They did nothing to actually develop the industry anywhere they go. On the contrary, the destroyed S Korea, Africa, India and MENA. They helped no one, couldn’t care less about good content or developing new voices, they only tried to empower the old guards and they even failed at that and had messed up strategies, not clear what they wanted or when.
