I told my therapist once that I was terrified of becoming my father because I sometimes feel like I have that same shine inside me that makes people listen and follow. I spent my 20s shutting myself down to avoid exposing people to what I thought was dangerous about me. He is my worst fear, even long dead.

Children take their parent’s anger but promise to use it differently. Instead of causing fear we believe that to use it to protect ourselves from further harm is reasonable and good, but in the end the same casualties are lost.
