Matthew McConaughey has sparked fresh speculation about a possible 2028 presidential run after releasing a video urging Americans to take independent candidates seriously. In the six-minute video, posted on Sunday ahead of next month’s midterm elections, the Oscar-winning actor argued that independents shouldn’t be dismissed as spoilers or protest candidates. “Independent does not mean you’re middle of the road. Independent is the original road,” he said. McConaughey didn’t announce a campaign or endorse any party or candidate, and said the message wasn’t about him. Still, several political commentators suggested he could be laying the groundwork for an independent run, while some critics argued he would struggle in a presidential race.
