@bnbsbottlereturncorp: Senator Elizabeth Warren is accusing Elon Musk of trying to buy the midterm elections outright, posting on X that “the richest man on earth dropped nearly $300 million to buy himself a Congress.” “That’s not democracy,” she wrote. “That’s a purchase order. On November 3, remind him the government isn’t for sale.” Musk has given roughly $276 million to Republican-aligned groups since July, according to reporting by The New York Times, making him the largest known donor of the 2026 midterm cycle. The biggest single chunk, $158 million, went to the Senate Leadership Fund, the super PAC backing Republican Senate candidates and aligned with Majority Leader John Thune. Another $76 million went to Musk’s own America PAC, with smaller sums spread across the Congressional Leadership Fund, the Republican Governors Association, the Republican Attorneys General Association and a PAC backing Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton. Counting his 2024 spending, Musk’s total political giving now stands near $366 million. An America PAC spokesperson, Andrew Romeo, defended the spending, saying the donations have let “the GOP apparatus get its message out so Republicans can have a fighting chance to defy history.” The spending comes as Musk has rebuilt his relationship with President Donald Trump after a public falling-out last year, despite telling CNBC in May 2025 that he planned to do “a lot less” political spending going forward. Warren has sparred with Musk repeatedly since his time running the Department of Government Efficiency, previously accusing him of using the role to boost his own companies’ fortunes. Her latest post frames the midterm spending as the culmination of that pattern, turning Election Day itself into a referendum on it.
