the most startling and scary part of the entire thing to me speaking generally on this entire phenomenon is how if you correct the misinformation (even very kindly! and even making it clear that you aren't defending the person in some cases) people will intentionally willfully continue to believe it and will get genuinely enraged and argue with you and start getting accusatory. like it is honestly so disturbing and then it gets spread further and further
