@theunkowndeity: In November 2023, Italy made history by becoming the first country in the world to ban the production, sale, and import of lab-grown meat. The right-wing government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni pushed the legislation through parliament by an overwhelming majority, framing it as a defence of Italian culture and its farming sector. Companies that break the law face fines of up to €60,000. Whether the rest of the world follows Italy's lead — or goes the other way - is a debate that's only just getting started. #italy #labgrownmeat #food #cultivatedmeat #news
