@ksbw_8: A 13-year-old Greenfield resident died after an electric scooter crash near Elm and Fourth streets at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, the Greenfield police and fire departments said. The rider crashed into a metal fence and suffered internal injuries, per police. They were taken to a local trauma center, where they later died, according to the department. Investigators determined no other vehicles were involved. In May, a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured in a separate Greenfield crash when his e-bike collided with a vehicle on Thorp Avenue. At the time, police said he was expected to survive. Greenfield police said they have adopted a zero-tolerance approach to reckless e-bike and scooter riding after receiving numerous complaints and safety concerns. Police say they initially issued warnings but have now adopted a zero-tolerance policy due to the dangers posed by unsafe riding practices. Police reminded riders that scooters are not allowed on sidewalks and should be ridden in bike lanes. California law requires motorized scooter riders to be at least 16 and have a valid driver’s license or instruction permit. Helmets are required.

Honestly I know the dmv is overwhelmed but I think anyone even kids need to take some kind of e-bike, scooter or bike course cause this is getting out of hand. Then when u go buy them u present the store with ur license and that shows them u took the course. Cause they need to take responsibility just like driving a car you follow driving rules anyone riding something like this should too. The other day we were walking on a trail we have behind the new house and we see two girls on an electric scooter coming down one street and a car coming from the other side the car had a blind spot so when he finally saw the girl he hit the breaks hard the girls were coming fast and the car scared them and they couldn’t stop all u see is the stupid girls fly off the scooter into the sidewalk. If the car would have hit them they would have been severely hurt. Also the fence was there to and it protected them from going into the ditch. All we could do is look at each other cause it happened so fast. Or when you are driving and the person instead of stopping like they should in the stop sign they keep going and you are the one that has to break cause they decided to cross right when u are going. Then if you do hit someone they will blame you for it. 😑😑😑
