@empty.glances: There’s something genuinely hilarious about the fact that the English language has approximately a million different rules, and somehow none of them seem to work when you actually need them to. 😭 Because think about it. Somebody drinks alcohol all the time, and everybody immediately has a word for them. But you spend your entire afternoon drinking Fanta, minding your own business, enjoying a perfectly refreshing orange beverage, and absolutely nobody has the decency to acknowledge that you’re fantastic. Like, excuse me? Where is the consistency? Where is the recognition? Where is the basic respect for somebody who’s clearly committed to their craft? Imagine walking into a family gathering holding your third Fanta of the evening, and instead of somebody saying, “Wow, you’re looking fantastic today,” your aunt just asks whether you’ve had enough sugar. That’s not the kind of support you were expecting from your own family. 😭 And the more you think about it, the more ridiculous the possibilities become. If somebody drinks Sprite every day, shouldn’t they be considered spirited? If somebody drinks Powerade before the gym, shouldn’t they automatically become powerful? And if you drink Smartwater during an exam, why isn’t your intelligence immediately increasing? We’ve apparently been advertising beverages with completely unrealistic expectations this entire time. Imagine showing up to a job interview, placing a bottle of Smartwater on the desk, and confidently explaining that you’re now qualified for every position in the company. Or drinking a Red Bull and being genuinely disappointed when you don’t grow wings. At some point, somebody needs to investigate these naming conventions because the promises are getting out of control. But the funniest part is how this kind of thought probably comes into somebody’s head at the most random moment imaginable. You’re just sitting in your kitchen, staring at a bottle of soda, and suddenly you have a philosophical breakthrough that absolutely nobody asked for. You immediately grab your phone, send it to the group chat, and wait for everybody to appreciate your incredible discovery. Instead, your best friend responds with “bro go to sleep,” somebody else leaves you on read, and one person starts explaining the actual linguistic differences between the words like you’re presenting a doctoral dissertation. And that’s when you realize that some people simply aren’t prepared for your level of intellectual brilliance. Of course, alcohol dependence is a real health concern, while drinking orange soda doesn’t magically grant you an impressive personality. But that’s precisely why the joke works. It’s so unnecessarily literal that your brain needs a second to process how ridiculous it is. And sometimes those are the funniest jokes of all. No elaborate setup, no complicated story, just somebody confidently presenting the most unserious observation you’ve heard all week. Because apparently you can drink Fanta your entire life and still have to convince people you’re fantastic. And personally, I think that’s a failure of the entire English language.
