My mom would freak the fuck out in the morning and then said something like “wait till you get back from school” and all day was just anxiety and dread to going home.

I remember in as a kid at least two times, she told me she was gonna put me in foster care when I get home. I spent that entire day at school scared, crying, and scared to go home. While at home, I spent the entire afternoon and evening scared someone was gonna come and get me or she would drop me off somewhere. Ofc, "I don't remember that"

My dad once put an ice cube in my underwear to wake me up. I was in kindergarten.

my parents either set an alarm at 6:30 with a long song on full wack, and put the phone in our room once we were asleep. or mum woukd walk in clapping loudly, put the big loght on, open the curtains as loud as she coukd, and then start singing at top volume "good morning. good MOORRRNING, its great to stay up late but good morning, good morning, to you" over and over

my mom would throw the door open, slap the lights on and yell "time to get up" I quietly open my daughter's door, pat her pack, and use a soft voice to wake her up. we have a good morning every morning ❤️

mind you, tons of parents take joy in disrupting their kids nervous systems. they look forward to waking their kids up in the most outta pocket way possible. they look forward to throwing around the weight of their authority every single day. sometimes it's the sole reason they even HAVE the kids, to have someone to abuse and take their frustrations out on.

I always woke up to a lot of yelling and light flicking like I was in an active war zone. With my daughter I make sure to cuddle her every single morning for about 5-10 minutes. It releases oxytocin, lowers cortisol/stress, boosts her immune system and improves emotional regulation. My teen still demands her snuggles EVERY morning. Even if the rest of her day is horrible at least it starts good.

I wake my kid by turning on the hallway light and opening her door. Then I go do something and after that I sing her name. I couldn’t imagine doing any of those things to wake my child. It’s so mean.

my mom ALWAYS woke me up with kisses before school (from preschool to 12th grade). Even when I was moody, i always appreciated it. It's one of my favorite memories of her.

Oh, it's worse if your parents are part of the military. I was thrown outside, in my pj's, in the cold. There was no need for it.

Also, let them eat their breakfast in peace. If you are all eating together that's one thing, but if they are trying to eat dont overload them with information or your problems.

every child is different. some children want to be up all night and then don't want to get up early. so parents had to improvise or they tried it the nice way and over time they were over the constant asking to get up. so they started getting attitude with it. other kids just liked to sleep in and parents again get sick of asking their kid to get up and get ready. some had alarms and ignored them and the parents was tired of the irresponsible child choosing to ignore their alarm. some parents had actual narcissistic tendencies and would enjoy just bothering their children. every child and scenario is different but ultimately the parents experience/perspective and the child's experience/perspective will usually be different depending on such factors. my daughter's young. so i sing to her and song to wake up and ask her how she slept etc. I'll soon get her an alarm clock and have her learn to use it and begin waking up for herself. starting the habit young is useful and can prevent hassle later on. now if she chooses to make bad choices and as a result starts ignoring her alarm or not wanting to wake then I'll adjust her schedule to go to bed earlier and eliminate distractions from her room to make it where she has an easier time falling asleep. if that doesn't work I'll check her health with the doctors and confirm it's not medical and then if it's just an attitude problem of hers, I'll provide consequences for her choices and she can either learn from them or worst case scenario I can send her to a challenge school where she has no choice but to fix her bad habits. do I expect worst case scenario? no and I don't want it. I'm always here to help my daughter grow and learn and thrive. but also to teach her respect for others and that includes time. structure isn't bad as long as it's done in a teaching way rather than a get even or punishment kind of way. as parents it's our job to prepare our children for the real world and how to cope with it. that doesn't mean throw them to the wolves. it means be there for them. not against them.

I’m autistic and was obviously an autistic child. My parents would flip all the lights on, yell, and yank the covers off. It was horrible. Sometimes they would film my reaction and this was in the mid-80s so there wasn’t even social media! I was filmed on an actual giant camcorder and I don’t even like eye contact. Anyway, I’m a very messed up adult

Your mom lowkey waterboarding you is insane. I’m also a deep sleeper, and even as an adult — my mom would try and use threats to get me going. Or this very hurry hurry approach. It was so tiring

I can see it in the drop-off line and it breaks my heart. The downturned eyes, the hunched shoulders, the set look to the face. That's why my school has a stated objective to get every kid by name with a smile. We can't control how their morning at home went, but we can try to make school a welcoming, supportive, loving place.

my mom would turn the lights on open the blinds and sang a really loud morning song, i didn’t love it but definitely was better than my step dad’s method of slamming the door open and yelling at me🙄

I started getting up earlier with the pets so I can take care of them, regulate MYSELF and have some tea, and then wake up my kid for school. He’s not the easiest to wake up (ADHD!!), so when I was also freshly awake and still tired all it accomplished was ruining his morning and mine every day. Fixing that was my job as the parent, so I did. Now he gets a soft wake up, then we play “bed monster” where I flop down on him and he pretends to be a monster under the blanket lol then it’s actually time to get ready for school. Regulation and silliness got built into the routine and everyone is happier and still out the door on time.

My mom used to like to wake me up and immediately ask me a million questions, and then she'd get pissed off when I couldn't answer all of them seconds into consciousness, so then that would set the tone for the whole day. Now she wonders why I always sleep with my door locked lol

my mom would drop ice cubes down my shirt to wake me up. I learned as an adult that I have a sleep disorder and it was not at all my fault that I could not get up 😭
