I have that! Spray some Flonase on the site and it should give immediate relief. It will also go down in 1-3 days

Have your doctor keep track of injection reactions for MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome). I have this with certain vaccines and injections as well as mosquito bites. It gets worse in time. Large welt, hot to touch, sometimes itchy and stays for a long time. Not always on the actual injection site but nearby. It’s a reaction (allergic reaction) to the histamine your body produces from the injection.

I get that reaction with a lot of vaccines. TDAP is the worst - I had a softball size welt. It was really hot and uncomfortable. My immune system is just really dramatic.

Allergic to eggs must be so hard to navigate! Though at this point I’m sure your family has plenty of eggless recipes in rotation

I used to have issues with vaccines similar to this. I have had histamine intolerance my whole life, and it has gotten worse as I age.

My daughter is allergic to eggs and had a reaction to the 2021 flu shot. Her entire shoulder got super swollen, achy and red and hot. (Think like a histamine reaction inside her shoulder muscle). She only reacted to that years formula. They did document on her medical record that year that she had an allergic reaction. I believe she is not qualified for the nasal spray vaccine (although…she has asthma, so maybe that’s why she isn’t qualified).

That can be a pretty common reaction. We always tell the kids to use their arm and work that vaccine through the muscle. If they hold the arm still, it can really cause that localized swelling to stay raised for awhile. Arm swings, playing catch, swimming, jump rope, etc can help.

I’m a pharmacist and unfortunately that reaction is fairly common! I’d say unusual for it to last a whole month though. Potentially it could be due to the egg allergy, but flucelvax and flublok r both egg free 💉 as well

I always got the flu mist as a child and I had to switch to the shot, and I’ve always gotten a reaction to the shot. I switched back to the mist and never got a reaction

Hi! I have had this experience 2 years ago. No egg allergy. CVS thought it was “Shoulder bursitis.” I can DM you a photo of my red circular arm rashes if you want. It happened to both of my arms, where they injected me. One side Covid Booster, one side Flu. The marks/ rashes grew to be about the size of oranges, so pretty big circles. Apparently, it was because of the technique they used when injecting me, hence why it happened to both arms. It lasted maybe 3 weeks. I put anti-itch cream on it, advised by CVS.

My son had two allergic reactions to the flu shot. He had allergy testing, and it turned out to be one of the preservatives. Unfortunately, it’s used in all versions so he can’t get the flu shot.

If she has that reaction on her skin what do you think it’s doing inside her body?

I had that happen to me this year for the first time. I've been getting flu shots for forever and this is the first time, it lasted about 2 weeks. It was really red, swollen, and very warm to the touch but wasn't cellulitis. The only allergies I have are pineapple and sulfonamide antibiotics, and nobody else in my house had any kind of reaction it was very strange.

Perhaps give an antihistamine the morning before she gets the shot. That’s what I do for my kids’ allergy shots.

Once she is 9 and up she could get flublock brand it’s egg free.

You can get the flu shot without egg- specifically ask for this, it’s not uncommon but they might not have it in every office

Sometimes when the body is already kinda sensitive because of a really bad allergy season, you can be more sensitive to other things. For instance raw apple and eggs only cause me symptoms during really bad allergy seasons when my histamine levels are already high. I assume you have an epi pen for her.
