I know right! If only they made a tray that could come down from like the back of the chair in front of you or something. They could put a spot that's slightly indented to hold a cup. That would be so cool.

I think it’s a safety issue. Same reason flight attendants insist your bag is all the way under the seat. If there needed to be an emergency evacuation a cup holder would get in the way

Flight attendant here - another place for people to stuff trash, also most locations would create blockage with prevents proper egress in the unlikelihood of an emergency evacuation

Yea you have the table, and you are in air, unlike a car it doesn't move for holes on the road or for breaking in traffic, and turns, so table is good

Agreed. Or even if the cup indention was just a bit deeper. If you have any kind of turbulence during your flight, the cup indention is not helpful.

most of locations showed in here would cause a safety issue when it would come to evacuation however, there are airlines who give you cupholders, so its most likely cost-based

I agree these would be great. But they don’t have them because of emergency evacuation. Anything sticking out can impede a quicker exit. A pocket, strap etc can get caught and you can be an issue. With that said, I have seen fold up cup holders… but I not often and don’t remember where.

while we're on the topic, why tf is the 'cup holder' on the tray table the most pointless attempt at doing a thing. That thing ain't holding shit. They might as weel just drawn a circle on the table. A light patch of turbulence and it's over.
