Two different kinds of humans once shared the same world. Homo sapiens and Neanderthals lived side by side in Eurasia for thousands of years, roughly between ~50,000 and 40,000 years ago. They were not separate in time — they were contemporaries. Neanderthals were physically robust, adapted to colder climates, and capable of complex behaviors, including tool-making, fire use, and likely symbolic practices. Homo sapiens, meanwhile, show evidence in many regions of broader social networks, more diverse toolkits, and increasing use of long-range hunting technologies. But the story is not simple. Neanderthals did not just “disappear.” Genetic evidence shows that modern non-African populations carry about 1–2% Neanderthal DNA, indicating that these populations met and mixed. So what actually happened? Was it technology? Population size? Mobility? Or something else entirely? This short documentary explores one of the most debated questions in human evolution: Why did one human lineage spread across the globe… while the other vanished? #ancientorigins #ancientdna #homosapiens #neanderthal #historytok
