I think not including cooking and cleaning in science classes is a huge wasted opportunity. Cooking and cleaning are both ways of using scientific methods and practices in real life, along with being very necessary life skills.

Honestly school skipped out on a lot of things to teach us. How to invest, how to start a business, how to buy a house, how to buy a car and how not to get into debt and if you do, how do you handle it. Or the importance of credit, financial literacy, food, science, how to properly prep cook and store food. I could go on. 🫠

I took a family & consumer science class my 7/8th grade years. Where we were taught how to cook basic meals, do laundry, load a dishwasher, sew. Etc! Some schools do teach these things

Unpopular opinion— school does teach you EVERYTHING you think it didn’t teach you. When you were taught to open a computer and do research on a topic you didn’t know, that was school teaching you to open that phone and research recipes

That’s why I homeschool. My 10 and 6 year old know where food comes from, how it grows, how to cook on cast iron and start a charcoal fire. We incubated eggs and raised chickens and ducks. They help water the plants everyday and pick fresh herbs for our food. They watch me make bread and help with everything. They know more than most kids their age along side their basic curriculum that we do online and homeschool co-op groups we go to once a week
