The 2026 World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers has enough strange connections for a second part. And honestly, some of these are better than the ones we covered the first time. Start with the two Championship Series MVPs. Jake Bauers won NLCS MVP for Milwaukee after helping the Brewers sweep the Dodgers. Freddy Peralta earned ALCS MVP for Tampa Bay against Cleveland. The twist is that Bauers made his major league debut with the Rays in 2018, while Peralta debuted for Milwaukee that same year. Both now get to play in a World Series against the franchise where their big league careers began. Peralta spent eight seasons with the Brewers before being traded to the Mets in January, then to Tampa Bay in August. Baseball careers can take some pretty winding paths. Then there’s Jake Woodford, who managed to be part of both organizations in the same season without reaching the World Series with either one. He was in Tampa Bay’s organization during spring training, was traded to Milwaukee in March, and spent part of the season with the Brewers. After time with the Cubs, he returned to the Rays organization in August. He became a free agent at the end of September. Teams decide how they distribute championship rings, so nothing is guaranteed here, but his 2026 itinerary makes him a possible ring recipient no matter which club wins. That’s a pretty unusual footnote for one baseball season. The history of the two franchises is connected, too. The Brewers spent their first decades in the American League. When MLB expanded to 30 teams in 1998, Arizona joined the National League and Tampa Bay joined the American League. That would have left 15 clubs in each league, creating a scheduling problem at a time when interleague play was still a relatively new, limited part of the calendar. Milwaukee agreed to switch to the NL, leaving the leagues with 16 and 14 clubs. Nearly three decades later, the team that helped make that alignment necessary is Milwaukee’s World Series opponent. Drew Rasmussen has another full-circle story. Tampa Bay selected him 31st overall in the 2017 draft out of Oregon State, but the two sides never reached a signing agreement amid concerns about his elbow. The Brewers drafted him in the sixth round the following year. He recovered, reached the majors with Milwaukee in August 2020, and then became part of the May 2021 trade that sent Willy Adames to the Brewers. Rasmussen went to the Rays, the very club that had tried to draft him four years earlier. Now he gets a World Series matchup against the club that actually started his MLB career. And perhaps the most interesting part of this matchup is how the two teams won. Milwaukee went 103-59, the best record in baseball, with just 154 regular-season home runs. That tied for 28th among the 30 MLB teams. Tampa Bay went 98-64, the second-best record, while hitting only 169 homers, ranking 22nd. In a sport where so much attention goes to the long ball, both reached the Fall Classic without being particularly homer-dependent. There was more than one way to build a winning offense in 2026. Which of these connections was your favorite? And who are you picking to win the World Series? #MLB #WorldSeries #BaseballHistory #Brewers #Rays
