This is a true. Thank you for saying this. The abused becomes a slave to catering to the dysregulated in order to keep peace. Nothing gets resolved this way.

I was extremely dysregulated during my last and most abusive relationship, but only in private. I looked fine to other people unless they were extremely close to me (almost nobody was because of how isolated I was). I’m not a crier, but I was crying, screaming, pleading to get the person I thought he was back. I almost died and still begged for his comfort. I would shut down while abuse was occurring, but then I’d go nuts trying to show him how hurt I was/begging to have the idea of him that he presented to me back. After we broke up I became so hyper independent and stable that it looked like I didn’t care at all, but it took me 3 years to be able to let my guard down enough to go on a date. I grew a lot in those 3 years, but I endured so much trauma that I had to draw a line in the sand and say no more of this ever again. I think history of abuse or trauma in childhood also has a huge effect on how you react, because someone could scream at me or put their hands on me, and I won’t react at all.

I was just discarded by a narc for the first time and I’m *normally* a very very calm chill person. In the last month I’ve had my first panic attacks/have been more angry than ever in my life/ended up in the hospital from it. I know I look very irrational and erratic right now and I actually don’t even care LOL.

The idea that someone “pushes you to act out” (typically by exercising their autonomy) is a classic excuse used by abusers, especially within and after DV situations that often end in taking someone’s life. I’m skeptical when people blame someone else for the harmful impacts of their dysregulation or identify the abuse they committed as reactive with no context to back it up for this reason. Even if it is true, more nuance is necessary to avoid inadvertently creating echo chambers for abusers.

He pushed me to the way having fight or flight mode I ran out to the house then he’s threatening to call the cops on me? I’m naturally more calm one then he got his friend over acting like a victim🗿
