I'm non-denominational/Pentecostal and fasting is a big thing for us, but not like that or even mandated, lol. I'm so sorry y'all had to deal with that. I do have C-PTSD, but it's not from that. We were never forced to do things like that, but I've seen other faiths go off the rails, too

Growing up food insecure and neglected/traumatized definitely breeds disordered eating habits. So go easy on yourself! Talking about it like you are, helps heal that!

thank you guys for sharing more about what you’ve been through, battling with orthorexia seems like a common denominator for a lot of people deconstructing their controlling religious environments. food control is one of the last pieces of autonomy a child can grip onto, and growing older with a confusing relationship with food can have serious health consequences, this is SO hard to navigate, at any age. it’s amazing you can help each other grow into your own individual selves now!!!

Just tell yourself “my body is not a trash can” you can throw food in the real trash instead of letting it make you uncomfortable for the rest of the day trying to over consume food that can also lead to gastrointestinal problems in the future

My ex husband was schizophrenic and it was dormant until he saw his cousin murdered when he was 24. He spent the nexts 6 yrs in a mental hospital. It was heartbreaking watching it happen.
