Elizabeth Holmes is what people THINK autistic people are like and then Nathan Fielder is what ACTUAL autistic people are like. Do I understand social cues all the time no…but I understand the difference between “can” and “could”

I don’t think it’s spots because as an autistic person, I do see similar similarities with how Elizabeth acts and how I act in social situations

What’s interesting to me is that most autistic savants are actually very precise with their words bc of how often they are misunderstood, as well as the need to have and pass on correct information. Elizabeth Holmes instead uses language that is intentionally misleading or could be easily misinterpreted. Autistic people care too much about being understood and clarifying information to consistently speak the way she does.

I used to do autistic assessments. I haven’t done them in a long time, but she does not present as autistic to me.

I think autistic ppl either become narcassistic or hyper empathetic.

I agree. She’s too inconsistent with when she decides to be precise and when she understands what she’s saying would get her in trouble and she adjusts accordingly. She gives weaponized incompetence in a way at times. Don’t say you’re a brilliant scientist then stumble over how to clarify a single sentence or come up with better alternatives for how to explain something you supposedly studied obsessively for years.

I'm autistic and watching Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes has a lot of patterns in common with me stumbling across and interacting with a (diagnosed) narcissist in the wild. I don't understand the people who claim there's romantic tension, he seems to be weighing her in disbelief, not attracted.

Speaking as an autistic person, you are spot on. I’ve thought this from my first viewing of YCSE. It shows, even more, in Amanda’s take on Elizabeth’s “how to love” dance on The Dropout. Sure, Liz’s actual dance was even more awkward/cringe. But Amanda’s performance of it was that way not because she’s being awkward but because Elizabeth, a known narcissist, was pretending to be autistic in order to avoid accountability.

My therapist in 2016 said it didn’t matter if I was autistic cause I’m already adhd so what would it matter. And it’s an uncomfortable and she’s playing it and making it harder for us.

Agree with you. I know someone who is a narcissist and claims he’s autistic to excuse all his cover up behaviors. It’s all on purpose and deeply manipulative.
