Actual pilot here. The plane would not take off because the wings would hit the pillars of the treadmill.

Pilot here. That’s not true💀 need lift to take off. Can’t have lift on a treadmill

can the man pull himself forward on the treadmill using the rope? if so, the plane can take off

Unless the treadmill is moving air over the wings ts ain’t taking off 😭 it ain’t about the speed of the wheels it’s about the speed of the air over the wings

Aircraft technician here! It’s about the wind over and under the wings, it’s sitting at a stand still butt the wheels are moving so no it wouldn’t be able to take off.

i can’t believe people actually believe it would take off

Okay so, the question itself is misleading. Everybody who says that the plane couldn't take off are assuming that the plane is stationary and would remain stationary because the wheels and treadmill are the same speed. The problem is the question is actually if the plane could still go forward with the engines turned on, which obviously it would assuming no friction in the wheels. Problem is the question states that the wheel and treadmill have the same speed, which they will not have the moment the plane begins moving, so ultimately theres no right answer, only if you make an assumption or ignore a part of the question can you come to a conclusion about what would happen.

It physically could not take off dude 😭 it needs lift aka air under the wings

It would NOT. Planes needs airflow to lift up😭🙄

no air = no lift, basic knowledge btw.

Sorry triple D no offense I love your vids but it’s about the speed and amount of air going under the wings because that air generates lift which is the force largely required to fly ❤️

omfg, literally elementary school level physics 😭 Aircraft do not produce lift via engine power, they produce lift through airflow over the wings, specifically pressure differences between the upper and lower part of the wing, the very oversimplified answer is that the top of the wing is curved and the air has to go a longer way, meaning it has to speed up which causes a drop in pressure, pulling the wing up. To have this happen, you need air flowing relative to the wings i.e. forward movement. Meaning that until your theoretical aircraft moves relative to the air, it is not going to move.

a plane takes off because of the difference in pressure under and over the wings. how will it take off?

Malcolm :
Wings wouldn’t be able to produce lift because there would be no rapid moving air going past the wings. It would accelerate on the treadmill and roll faster but it wont actually takeoff

I think people think there's a motor connected to the wheels on an airplane

im a student pilot, the wings lift requires air moving at a certain speed over the wings. if the plane is on a treadmill going the opposite direction the plane is rolling, no air is going over the wings and therefore no lift is generated.

People sure love just talking on this app. Groundspeed does not make a plane take off, so no matter how fast a plane’s ground speed is, it won’t fly
