@lifewithtiffanyz: To me, holding someone accountable is an expression of respect. It means caring enough to have the difficult conversations, even when they are uncomfortable. In the military, our responsibility to one another extends beyond simply meeting standards. It requires the courage to address what falls short, the discipline to uphold what is expected, and a genuine commitment to helping one another grow. Accountability is a two-way responsibility. We owe one another professionalism and respect when holding each other accountable. In return, we must have the humility and emotional maturity to receive correction without immediately interpreting it as a personal attack. We cannot demand excellence while resisting the very feedback required to achieve it. Nor can we expect discipline in the big things while dismissing our responsibility for the small ones. Discomfort is not synonymous with disrespect. Being challenged is not the same as being diminished. Caring for people does not require lowering expectations to preserve comfort. Sometimes, the greatest investment we can make in someone is refusing to let them settle beneath what they are capable of.

Well said. Good leaders tell others what they need to hear, not what they want to hear.

It is so true. It is so hard to have those conversations. I have respected my superiors when they ask for my accountability in my short comings. It made me such a stronger worker, employee. It also, worked in my personal life. We rarely walk into a work environment in a costume so thick that it isnt who we are at home. It can be hard, but integrity is the chromosome of accountability- and the people that hold you to a higher standard do it because they believe that you are! ❤️

Chief, they won’t let us do it anymore. No paper trail, no hard conversations, no remedial training…and that’s just the junior officers…

100%. But it commonly feels like an attack for those who aren’t ready to accept it.
