I go through hell… What confuses people is that I’ve always been good at communicating. Even back at school, I’d often be asked to speak at assemblies. Not because I was confident, but because I could articulate myself well. The funny thing is, I was terrified every single time. I just got very good at pretending I wasn’t. As I got older, I kept saying yes to opportunities that scared me. Eventually, I worked at a large city firm where I was regularly asked to give presentations and motivational talks to teams. Again, I was nervous. But after years of acting confident, something unexpected happened: I actually became confident. That’s why I think we often misunderstand people who seem naturally gifted. We see the finished product, not the years of awkwardness, self-doubt, and practice that came before it. Most people aren’t special. They’re just the person who kept showing up while scared. The person who was willing to look foolish long enough for their talent to develop. Sometimes confidence isn’t something you’re born with. Sometimes confidence is just fear that’s been repeated so many times it loses its power. So yes… fake it till you make it might be one of the most misunderstood pieces of advice out there. Because sometimes faking it really is how you make it. #Con#Confidenceo#GrowthMindsett#IntrovertLifer#PersonalDevelopmentthenticity
