@news.studio2: Justin Guarini Reflects on American Idol Run and Kelly Clarkson’s Win American Idol Season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini has no regrets about finishing behind Kelly Clarkson during the show’s inaugural finale in 2002. Reflecting on his experience while promoting his new self-help book, Center Stage Confidence: How to Own Your Story and Command Any Room, the 47-year-old singer shared that he felt genuine peace standing in the wings while Clarkson performed "A Moment Like This". Guarini recalled jokingly telling a producer to hire extra security in case he won, knowing the crowd would riot if Clarkson—who he felt truly deserved the crown—didn't take home the title. Looking back on the past 25 years, Guarini expressed pride in his career achievements across stage, screen, and Broadway, noting that "everything worked out the way it was supposed to." His new book focuses on transforming fear and past failures into personal growth and self-assurance, drawing on insights from his own career and conversations with figures like Michael Bublé, Jordan Fisher, and Amber Ruffin.
