6 things I always check before planning a dog-friendly day out with my Bernese Mountain Dog puppy 🐾 Since bringing home our Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, we’ve explored beaches, woodland trails, historic villages, pumpkin patches and even the Lake District. But I’ve quickly learned that somewhere being advertised as dog-friendly doesn’t necessarily mean it’s suitable for every dog, especially a growing giant breed puppy. Here’s what I check before we go. 1. Are dogs genuinely welcome? I always check whether dogs are allowed inside buildings, cafés and other facilities, rather than just in the outdoor areas. 2. How far will we actually need to walk? Billy is still growing, so we look for shorter routes with plenty of opportunities to rest. 3. What’s the terrain like? Steep steps, tricky surfaces and long climbs can make an otherwise lovely destination less suitable for a young giant breed. 4. How busy will it be? We love visiting popular destinations outside peak times. It’s generally a much more relaxed experience for everyone. 5. Are there places to stop? A dog-friendly café, a shady bench or somewhere quiet to sit can make all the difference. 6. Can we change our plans? I always prefer days out where we can cut the walk short, head back to the car or simply stop and enjoy where we are. Our biggest lesson? A successful day out isn’t about how much you manage to see. It’s about everyone enjoying themselves, including the dog. Save this for your next dog-friendly adventure! #DogFriendlyUK #DogFriendlyDaysOut #PuppyAdventures #DogFriendlyTravel #BerneseMountainDog
