@alishacollinsrealestate: Replying to @Raquel Verde The sellers left EVERYTHING behind, so the buyers SOLD IT ONLINE! 😂 These buyers showed up for their final walkthrough, and the sellers were still living in the house! The sellers wanted them to close anyway and move out afterward, but the buyers said no. Apparently, the sellers ended up leaving their belongings behind, and the buyers actually made money selling some of them! In my 22-plus years in real estate, most buyers don't want the seller's leftover stuff. They want an empty, clean house that's ready for them to move into. And usually, what gets left behind isn't worth selling. It's stuff the buyers end up paying to haul away! If you walked into your new house and the sellers had left a bunch of belongings behind, what would you do with them? #alishacollins #casperwyomingrealestate #realestatebestie #finalwalkthrough #homebuyingtips

I once sold a 3rd floor condo, and was just going to leave a huge sectional sofa and entertainment center, as I did not want to carry them down the stairs. The day before their final walk-though, the buyers offered me $500 to leave that furniture! Score!

I bought a house in march 2020. Covid just started because of Covid, my lenders freaked out. The seller had already purchased another house and closed the week before we were supposed to close. Wound up signing a six-month lease agreement, so I could prove my income wasn’t gonna change, and then we actually closed September 2020. I was fortunate and did not take a financial hit during Covid. But during this time, I went into the walk up attic and it was fully loaded full of stuff. The sellers didn’t want it, and they wouldn’t come get it. So I decided to go through it. I made over $60,000 selling everything. Collectible baseball cards, basketball cards, NASCAR cards. Collectibles, children’s books from the 50s and 60s. Silver you name it, it was up there. I was the 1st non-family member to own this home since it was built. There was a lot that went in the trash, but it was well worth the time and effort to sell it all. And it paid for the kitchen remodel.

ours left a bunch of paint cans in the garage 🫠 it was the only thing so we just let it go. they were elderly and I think they thought they were being helpful by leaving labeled cans for touch up.

I want every thing out of it’s not with the house. After my son closed on his home, he went there and found the realtor and the seller fleeing the scene. I mean actively running They had stole a chandelier that the seller left.

This happened to a coworker. Messy marital separation. She left and moved in with her affair partner. He stayed in the house. They listed it. He was packing up everything. He told her to get her stuff packed before closing, even leaving to allow her alone time to do it. She never did. He packed her stuff and dropped it at the place she was living. There was furniture left that her father had made. Coworker told her to get it. Closing day came. He moved everything out, except the furniture. New people move in. Lawyer calls about the stuff left there. She won’t answer her phone. They sell it. A month later she comes looking for it. Tried to sue them. Of course she lost.

They need to take their things or it goes in the trash. The exception is extra cleaning supplies and the leftover materials for home renovations. We left the paint cans and excess flooring from when we replaced it.

We kept some of it! The seller was still mourning the loss of his parents (their home) and his momma had some very cool stuff! He was so happy we did...he even stopped by to meet us. (Small town, folks, calm down).

Our sellers left a bunch of kids stuff because they knew we have younger kids. We use just about everything they left and I’m so grateful! They moved out of state and asked about leaving certain things. We also bought items like a deep freezer from them so they didn’t have to deal with selling it and moving it etc. never had one before and now I don’t know how I lived without it. Also made friends with them and sent them items that were accidentally mailed to our home instead of their new home. We’re very lucky.

my ex and I bought a house, and they left some furniture that they said they thought was ugly. It was all Duncan Phyfe, two bedrooms full. Because we didn't have enough furniture to fill it they offered to leave it behind. i still have it. There's an identical piece for sale on 1stdibs for a crazy amount.

If they left stuff I did not contract for as the buyer, I’d charge the sellers for removal. Did that in 2003 when we bought our home. They left so much shit. Called out attorney she called their attorney and said either they come remove now or send us $1000. We got the certified funds that day.

I had leftover lumber and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out how I was going to move it. About a week before the closing hey asked if it could stay. I couldn’t write the YES letter fast enough.

Did my final walkthrough. Almost 5000sqft house was still completely full 2 days before closing. I flat out said there better not be a single thing left in the house and wouldn’t sign until I did a SECOND final walkthrough before signing. Your stuff is not my problem and I’ll close when the house is empty.

Bought my first home last year. Sellers spent a long time removing stuff. but we ended up discussing the rest and I absolutely appreciated they left the rest. I put all my money into the house. having items like lawnmower, blower, shovels, rakes, shop vac, book cases. swiffer, cleaning supplies. etc. was very helpful.

What if you have to move your stuff out immediately because you’re closing the house you just sold or your lease is up? Now you have to find storage for your items? Or if you have more time you have to cancel movers last minute which is usually nonrefundable? I’d sue for all related expenses incurred (which may include a hotel bill), and hourly rate for removing their items and having to clean the place which should’ve been done before closing. And if allowed request additional money for the stress of the last-minute scramble.

In a competitive market, I've added a line to the offer stating "the seller can leave anything behind and the buyer will dispose of." Hoping that would make us stand out on some of the estate sale homes where family members have already cleaned out the majority of the stuff left behind.

Not me but my neighbor. The seller left a competition level smoker when they moved. A few months later he came back for it, but the buyer had sold it.
