@sdelanovussr: In the Soviet Union, during the late 1980s, autumn mushroom hunting became one of our favorite traditions. Every year, my friends and I escaped the city to gather mushrooms for winter. One morning, we met at the garage at five, packed our rubber boots, wicker baskets, knives, and a huge thermos of homemade tea, and drove sixty kilometers into a beautiful pine forest. After our traditional toast to good luck, we spread out among the trees. Soon, our baskets were overflowing with slippery jacks, golden chanterelles, and magnificent porcini mushrooms! By noon, we had collected more than we could carry. That evening, we returned to our garage, sliced the largest mushrooms, threaded them onto strings, and hung them beneath the ceiling to dry. We imagined cold winter evenings when we could add those fragrant mushrooms to a pot of potatoes and enjoy the wonderful taste of autumn all over again! #USSR #sovietunion #History #story
