For the people talking about dingoes and wild dogs interchangeably I think it’s important to note the studies which show they have significantly different impacts on both environment and livestock because they behave differently. It’s been reported the more aggressive wild dog packs push out the dingo packs and THAT leads to more conflict with livestock

My hot take, they have been here 8000 years, they are not introduced pests. And as humans every time we start trying to “control” something we stuff it up, and end up making bigger issues in the long run…… how about we try and find a happy medium and work with what is already here. 🤷🏼‍♀️

There has to be a way to live harmoniously. Killing everything off to eventual extinction is not the answer either. Dingo proofed fences where they colonise and could be contained? If they self control the population? Or like is US there's protected land mass where wolves live and can't be hunted.

We have coyotes here, not dingos, but same general principle. It’s been my observation that in a healthy environment, they aren’t much of a problem. They keep things in balance out there and leave my stock alone. Not much need to step in. If, on the rare occasion, there is a problem then it may be necessary to take appropriate measures. As long as they leave me alone, I leave them alone. Protection animals seem to do the trick. Never turns out well when you mess with the natural order of things.

They have gone insane with baiting. I am 10min out of the city & the Council allowed baiting on the neighbouring 40acre property that has boarding kennels & keeps greyhounds in open paddocks. & they dis not make them put up signage because their customers wouldnt like it. All for 3 wild dogs seen in the creek - 2 of which have several mange & are sick. No one is reporting stock losses. The dogs aren't even coming out of the creek here. Its insane.

American has some interesting ways to reduce wolf attacks on mainly cattle. The use of drones is quite interesting.

You aren't the only one confused by the Parks decision. The collar idea sounds great. The question would be cost and who would be responsible.

I worked in remote NT Timber creek, we had a pack of dingos on the outer of the camp (construction building a army city along with the United States, a air strip was built which would eventually be used for fighter jets, so feral animals would be a problem, especially the huge pigs and Bufalo. The chopper and shooter would go out daily to hunt, as the numbers diminished he started shooting feral cats, I asked an indigenous employee if the dingos would attack and catch cats and he said no they are way too vicious. If you google feral cat with goanna in its mouth, this was a video captured by CSIRO on cctv on the border of the Simpson desert, it’s huge the size a of a medium dog

Hi sheep farmer here. Dingos/ wild dogs. Can cause. Thousands of dollars damage per night dingoes wild dogs do not run past sheep to attack kangaroos feral pigs baby goats or any other animal the sheep is an easy target and the sheep is the game. We run an intensive trapping program here. And baiting. livestock Guardian animals are no good for sheep because we have to round that animal up and cage it which is not easy to do as they are part of the herd prior to us going into a paddock with our working dogs because they will attack our working dogs. And on a property our size we would have to have 20+ guardian dogs. 1080 bait is made from Australian native plant. 🌱 and native animals have a high tolerance to it such as 6 mg will kill a wild dog or dingo and it will take up to 70 mg to kill something like a Go Anna that’s why there is 6 mg in one dog bait a GoA would have to eat 40+ baits to get an effect of 1080 please excuse the spelling just a hillbilly sheep farmer
