Emanuel Spitari Darlington Paedophile Child Rapist In 2019, the Offender Register recorded that Emanuel Spitari, 61, suffered serious injuries following a stabbing within the high-security HMP Frankland in County Durham. On Thursday 14 August 2019, the former Merchant Navy officer was rushed to hospital with injuries described by Durham Constabulary as "life-changing." It was reported that Spitari was serving a 23-year sentence for a series of historic sexual assaults against children in the Darlington area when the incident occurred. The investigation into the prison attack led to the arrest of a fellow inmate. Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court heard that Dave Allen, 39, was charged with attempted murder following the morning stabbing. The prosecution reported that while Spitari survived the assault, the nature of his injuries was grave. The case was subsequently transferred to Teesside Crown Court for further proceedings, with the Prison Service reporting that no staff members were harmed during the incident. Judicial Findings and Investigative Detail The court reported that Spitari had been a figure of local notoriety in Darlington long before his 2018 conviction. Teesside Crown Court heard during his original trial that a decade before being brought to justice, one of his victims had beaten him up and scratched the word "nonce" into the metalwork of his car. The investigation established that Spitari, a former coach driver, claimed he had no idea what the term meant and continued to drive the vehicle with the graffiti until his employer explained the insult to him.
