@theunkowndeity: Guests are celebrating after Airbnb's new policy says hosts generally can't require them to do time consuming cleaning before checkout. The rules, announced October 20, take effect November 20 and cover chores like stripping beds, starting laundry and washing dishes. Hosts can still ask for simple things, like putting used dishes in the sink or gathering used towels, but they can no longer ask guests to wash and put away dishes or pull sheets off the beds. Airbnb is also limiting when hosts can make guests sign separate contracts, allowing them only in specific cases like legal requirements or monthly stays. Not every host is on board, with some saying on Airbnb's community forums that they'll raise their cleaning fees to make up the difference. The change builds on a 2023 update that let guests rate a host's checkout tasks and flag ones they felt were excessive. Is this a win for guests or a loss for hosts? #airbnb #travel #hotel

yes because wtf was the point of the cleaning fee if the guest cleans themselves??

Why is this such a big deal? It may just be me but I ALWAYS clean up after myself and my family wherever we stay. even if its just a hotel. I feel thats just common courtesy. I would never leave anywhere we stayed looking like trash.

My last host wanted us to take out trash, wash all the dishes (which I would do anyways) and strip the bed and wash all the laundry and put the clean bed set back on the bed 😑 I was like wtf and checkout was at 11 so I had to get up way earlier for that shit. I was like damn you want me to sweep and mop too so your cleaning person doesn’t have to anything since I’m already being charged a cleaning fee 😒

Still overpriced, both Airbnb & Hotels need to take a look at checkout times, it is ridiculous that u can’t even get a full 24 hours somewhere for what u r paying. Most have to leave by 10 the next morning.. that’s BS , at least with hotels they can be more accommodating cause they have more staff on hand but they both r ridiculous with these check in/ out times

I don’t see the problem with cleaning up a bit before you leave a space. Hotel or bnb. I always leave where I stay clean.

What about the people who actually destroy properties? As someone in the industry I hate when people strip beds and throw everything by the washing machines, we see stains better when they’re on the bed.. but some of yall don’t know the amount of time and energy it takes to clean these places and most times the owners take money off of our bidded cleaning rates.. I’ve lost faith in humanity in this industry and I’ve been in it for 14 years.. selling my business soon.

Honestly i agree with these changes in support of the guests. Obviously if there’s damage to any of the owner’s property or an unauthorized party, - that needs to be addressed. but being there’s a already a cleaning fee AND I’ve seen AIRBNB host vids where they’re punishing guests for a towel on the floor, empty dishes in a bedroom, beds not made to hotel standard etc.. seeems a little excessive.

The policy says “shouldn’t”, not “cannot” or “shall not”, so it isn’t a ban, unfortunately, from an enforceability standpoint

Great now all the prices are going to double bc nobody can spare 5 minutes to pull the sheets off the bed and gather used towels into a pile

why would you pay an arbitrary cleaning fee? if I didn't leave it messy, I wouldn't pay

yea ngl never gotten an airbnb, and never will. acc got mad at the girl im talking to (ive known her for years so im not actually mad) for suggesting we get an airbnb for a trip we’re planning. like holy, so overpriced, just because it’s a “home”. literally doesn’t even make sense to get one, unless there aren’t any hotels/motels around the area you’re staying at.
