Saturday, 24 October 2026 | Sacrament of Confirmation | Our Lady of Assumption Mundika Parish The Power of Forgiveness A reflection on mercy, repentance and reconciliation. We all make mistakes. At some point, we hurt others, make wrong choices or fall short of the people we are called to be. What matters is our willingness to acknowledge our faults, seek forgiveness and allow ourselves to change. Jesus Christ came to reveal the mercy of God. Through His life, death and resurrection, He showed us that sin does not have to be the end of our story. God calls us to repentance and offers us the opportunity to begin again. If we believe in God's forgiveness, we must also learn to forgive one another. We cannot continually ask God for mercy while insisting that those who have wronged us are beyond forgiveness. Holding on to resentment only deepens division and prevents reconciliation. Forgiveness does not mean pretending that wrongdoing never happened. It means choosing not to let anger and bitterness control our hearts, while allowing room for healing, accountability and change. Young people, respect your parents, listen to your elders and be willing to learn from their guidance. In our families and communities, let us correct one another with love and remain humble enough to admit when we are wrong. Christ entrusted His disciples with the ministry of forgiveness so that His work of mercy would continue. We, too, are called to become instruments of reconciliation, helping restore relationships rather than allowing conflicts to separate us. Do not let resentment have the final word in your relationships. Be willing to say, “I was wrong; please forgive me,” and have the courage to forgive those who have hurt you. The mercy we receive from God should become the mercy we extend to others.
