It’s not on fire, it’s plasma. There’s a reaction happening called fusion. Hydrogen is fusing into helium. In about 5 billion years, the Sun will run out of hydrogen fuel and expand into a red giant. It will swallow Mercury and Venus, and likely Earth. Eventually, it will shed its outer layers into a planetary nebula and leave behind a dense white dwarf that slowly cools over trillions of years.
