I've completed my first year here and this is what a typical day at my school looks like. We hold our main classes in the faculty building. I usually sit at the back of my class because it's ideal for watching movies on my tablet during unnecessary lessons. We conduct our practical lessons in labs. The anatomy lab, which is both everyone's biggest fear and favorite, contains many models, mannequins and real bones. Each section of the lab has screens where we listen to lectures, along with giant tablets filled with 3D anatomy models. While we could make funny stuff with bones in the bone block, with the arrival of the muscle block, we are now only able to pay our condolences for our cadavers lying in formaldehyde. We are doing histology practices in the multidisciplinary lab. Every time I place the specimens under the microscope, either I can't see anything, or what I do see has no relation to the tissues on the slides. We do biochemistry practices in the basic sciences lab. Although the labs are fun, what we see are mostly about the chemistry part, so they don't really interest me. At lunchtime, I leave the faculty building and walk to the university cafeteria. The food could be better, but considering the price is 35 liras (0.72 USD), the cafeteria is quite adequate in terms of price-performance ratio. Besides, if the food is bad, we eat outside with friends. If we have clinical courses, we go to the Faculty of Health Sciences at the university. In these clinical classes, we take lessons on pulse and blood pressure measurement, sanitary and surgical handwashing and wearing medical gloves to warm us up for later classes. It's certainly a good thing that first-year students are given lessons on things actually used in a hospital. We also take our elective courses at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
