@beyond.naija: She died protecting millions of Nigerians from Ebola. 🇳🇬 In July 2014, Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh identified Nigeria’s first Ebola case and refused to let the patient leave the hospital, despite pressure to release him. She eventually contracted the virus herself and died on 19 August 2014, aged 58. Just two months later, Nigeria was declared Ebola-free, after recording 20 cases and 8 deaths. Her courage helped prevent what could have become a much larger outbreak. In a heartbreaking coincidence, on 20 October 2026, exactly 12 years after Nigeria was declared Ebola-free, the country confirmed an imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease in Abuja. The patient had travelled from Uganda, and health authorities began tracing 44 close contacts. History has brought Ebola back into Nigeria’s headlines on the same date that marked its victory over the 2014 outbreak. Dr. Adadevoh’s legacy reminds us how one person’s courage can make a lasting difference. ❤️ 📚 Sources: BBC, The Guardian, BMJ, TheCable, WHO Africa #Beyond5000 #Nigeria #NigerianHistory #AmeyoAdadevoh #DrAmeyoAdadevoh #Ebola #AfricanHistory #WomenInHistory #HealthcareHeroes #NigerianHeroes
