The recording spread across social media, and people started demanding accountability. Kia eventually acknowledged that a racial slur had been used and apologized. Now she’s released this emotional video, saying she handled the situation badly, let people down, and wants to learn to do better. But here’s where I stand. AN APOLOGY DOESN’T AUTOMATICALLY RESTORE TRUST. For me, it wasn’t only the offensive language. It was the initial attempt to explain away what viewers heard. And that’s a serious problem when you’re running a brand and asking customers to trust you. Several influencers and models have already distanced themselves from Kikiva. And personally? I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING KIKIVA PRODUCTS OR SUPPORTING THIS BRAND. That’s my decision. People have the right to apologize and demonstrate that they’ve changed. But customers also have the right to decide where their money goes. And I believe accountability is demonstrated through actions over time, not just words in a video.
