@sammieejade0: One of the most misunderstood things about coercive control is that an abuser doesn’t always have to tell you what you can and cannot do. Sometimes, they just teach you what happens when you make a decision they don’t like. You learn which conversations will start an argument. Which decisions will be punished. Which parts of yourself you need to hide. You learn when to stay quiet, when to apologise and when it’s easier to just give in. And eventually, you stop needing to be told. You start anticipating their reactions before they’ve even happened. You change your behaviour, question your judgement and make decisions based on what will keep the peace. The most psychologically damaging part is that you can genuinely believe you’re making your own choices, without recognising how much fear is influencing every single one. And that’s why coercive control can be so difficult to recognise, explain and escape. Because when someone has conditioned you to control yourself, they don’t even need to be in the room to have power over you. #coercivecontrol #domesticabuseawareness #hidden #MentalHealth #Relationship

24 years and my eyes are wide open. I am still stuck with him but he knows I know and I told him he can stay in his delusional world, I know the truth! His selective amnesia is doesn’t fool me it just makes me disrespect him and makes him look pathetic. And he goes on pretending he didn’t hurt me. He will have to answer one day for his sins. I sleep peacefully knowing I’m in reality an one day I will escape…if not in this world, then in the next.

"....I was making every decision around his reactions, even when he wasn't there....."
That one ⬆️- even 5 years out and the person no longer alive - I still find myself doing it. F☠️☠️king conditioning.

I'm so hard to explain to people that don't experience it. because they don't understand why we don't just leave. I spent 20 years with a man under his course of control. I'm finally at a point where I will be moving out and away. and that took me 6 years to do

It took me 6 weeks to tell my husband I was going out for afternoon tea with my female work colleagues because I was so worried about his reaction 🥺
