@ladadekotopontv: DAY 2: RITUAL CLEANSING & ENSTOOLMENT | A SACRED TRANSITION IN LA’S SPIRITUAL HERITAGE 🕊️ Exactly two nights after her confinement, the sacred journey of Aawon Naa Afieye Okropon, also known as Samfee Kpoŋkpo (Gbɛhe Yoo), continued with ritual cleansing at the La seashore, followed by her enstoolment at the family house. 🌅 THE RITUAL CLEANSING Beginning in the early hours of the morning, before sunrise, the procession comprising Woyei, Wohii, Agbaafoi and relatives quietly departed the family house for the La seashore. The journey was conducted in silence as the entourage made its way towards the site of the sacred cleansing. At the shore, Aawon Naa Afieye Okropon was bathed with sacred herbal concoctions as part of the ritual cleansing associated with this stage of her initiation. The ceremony represents an important moment in her spiritual preparation and her journey towards fully assuming her role as a Woyoo. Due to the sacred and private nature of the rites, access was restricted at a certain point, and the cleansing itself could not be followed or filmed in its entirety. La Dadekotopon TV respects these traditional boundaries while documenting the aspects of the ceremony that can be shared with the public. 🤍 THE RETURN: WHITE, RENEWAL AND CELEBRATION Following the cleansing, the Woyei, Wohii and some relatives dressed in white. White powder was applied to their faces and parts of their bodies, symbolising victory, renewal and a new beginning following the successful ceremony. The entourage then made its way back to the family house in a straight-line procession, singing Kpa lalai along the journey. The return marked another significant moment in the proceedings, bringing the participants back to the family home after the sacred rites at the shore. 🪑 THE ENSTOOLMENT: A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS Upon their return, the family heads poured libation before welcoming Aawon Naa Afieye Okropon into the house as she continued her transition into priesthood. Her spiritual mother and guardian, Aawon Awobi Mensah, then enstooled her on the traditional stool she will use throughout her life as a Woyoo. In Ghanaian traditional settings, enstoolment is an important customary act through which a person is installed into a recognised traditional or spiritual role. In this ceremony, the seating on the stool three times formed a significant part of the ritual installation, marking an important stage in her transition into her sacred office. The three seatings may be understood within the ritual’s spiritual and communal context as signifying acceptance by the spiritual world, recognition by the living community, and the formal establishment of her role. These interpretations should be understood in the context of the tradition and the ceremony being observed.
