@kylie__gc2: The patient talked about how much she loved the beach at Hervey Bay. Paramedics Graeme Cooper and Danielle Kellan listened, then made a small detour that meant a great deal to her. In November 2017, the Queensland ambulance crew took her stretcher to a spot overlooking the ocean. She was receiving palliative care and wanted to see the water again. Rocks prevented them from taking her all the way to the sea. Cooper found another way: he filled a bag with seawater and brought it back so she could touch it. She even tasted the salt water. The crew took her to the beach twice. On a later journey back to hospital, they offered another stop, and she gladly accepted. Kellan photographed Cooper standing beside the stretcher. The image was shared by Queensland Ambulance Service and travelled around the world, but the patient’s response was quieter. Looking toward Fraser Island, she told Kellan: “I’m at peace, everything’s right.” The paramedics told ABC they were humbled by the attention. Other ambulance workers began sharing similar moments when a small change to a journey had given a patient something they deeply wanted. Sources: ABC News; Queensland Ambulance Service. It's a beautiful place to call home.
These guy's didn't go out of their way to take her they followed her lead.
Sometimes the best medicine is just going to the beach looking out & hearing the water as it moves, nothing beats that feeling.
Well done to these guys for following her lead & not the rules.
