Part 6 – The Third Level and the Ominous Presence Vintage film look, slightly darker and more distorted. They reach the third level — larger rooms with high ceilings that copy grand castles and churches but everything is slightly the wrong size and the shadows are too long. As they cross a vast empty hall, all four stop at once. An unseen presence presses against them: the air grows heavy, lights dim without source, and faint breathing seems to come from the walls. The milkmaid’s pail tips and spills nothing. The alligator-cat’s scales rise. The frog-wizard’s eyes widen. Far down the hall, a tall, featureless silhouette briefly appears in a doorway then vanishes. They know they are being watched. The knight raises his shield and the group moves faster, quieter.
