His primary request was not for physical comfort, safety, or material success, but that their love would abound. However, biblical love is not a blind, sentimental emotion or a simple desire to please everyone. Paul paired love directly with knowledge and all discernment. True Christian love grows wiser over time, anchored in the truth of God’s Word rather than cultural trends or shallow tolerance. Approving What Is Best Why does love need knowledge and discernment? So that you can approve what is excellent. Life is rarely a simple choice between clear-cut right and wrong. More often, it requires choosing between good, better, and best. Discerning love helps you look past superficial choices to see what truly honors God and builds up others. Living Pure and Blameless The ultimate goal of this growing, insightful love is personal holiness: "so that you may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ". To be "pure" means having sincere motives without hidden compromise. To be "blameless" means living in a way that causes no unnecessary stumbling for others. This kind of life is not built on your own willpower alone, but through daily dependence on God's Spirit as you read His Word and walk in prayer.
