Both are fantastic achievements that I really dont think any other person wouldve been able to do. Stalin doesnt get enough credit, without him Europe would be speaking German

I would argue the British bombing campaign of industry in Germany and keeping the axis busy on every continent was a bigger role.
Britain out produced every metric except tanks.

Horatio is right and to see that you have to project what Trotsky would have done as USSR leader instead. Trotsky wouldn't have focused on creating a strong base for socialism a lá Stalin's 'socialism in one country' vision but instead spreading fermenting revolution in Western Europe. Stalin winning that power struggle led directly to the rapid industrialization of USSR between 1924-1941. 80% of all German casualties were on the Eastern Front. USSR made easily the biggest contribution to defeating the Nazis specifically

Kind of insane to not bring up that Stalin’s government originally cooperated with Nazi Germany and aided in the initial invasion of Poland. Hitler invading Russia was a violation of that agreement. Also the USSR’s war material was very substantially supported by the United States lend lease program. The Soviets didn’t pull a Shonen flashback power up and suddenly decide to defeat the Nazis, they were allies of the Nazis who only switched sides after getting betrayed and was heavily supported by other allies after the fact.
