In the 60s, during the Civil Rights movement, an Afro was a political statement! In fact in Brazil, the Afro is referred to as “Black Power”.

I fought my school. 14 years old I was telling them there's no way a bunch of white dudes will determine which hairstyle I'm gona have. And I won.

I loved when he started to grow out his hair. I hoped he would keep it but thought he might not because he is on tv so I'm happy he kept it. Afros are so beautiful and we see too few of them on tv.

I've decided to also let my hair grow. I hate that I've cut my hair mainly because it's "presentable". I have an issue with that. I'm African for crying out loud. You, Hov, J. Cole, and Ngcukaitobi are my goats.

so true African countries need to readdress this hair issue, hair was very paramount in African traditions even in the Bible most traditions are afrinish ,they expressed creativity through their hair too , it's the intimidation those wicked colonialist felt towards African hair

All people no matter their hair texture should be able to wear to their hair the way they want without fear of reprisal or judgment.

as a white guy in SA all of my teachers and principals up until the end of highschool said that boys couldn't have their hair longer than 5 to 6 cm and they would make the black learners and those of us were curly hair pull out hair down to stretch it and then get it cut
