@kavinonreddit: AITA For telling My Husband he shouldn't be upset when my DAUGHTER said that Her Uncle would be the One to WALK her down the aisle on her wedding Day? Credit: @dustythunder_ #redditstories #storytelling #redditreadings #storytime #reddit_tiktok
The fact that mom stayed after he said that is questionable to me.

I have a sneaking suspicion that what upset him was not the realization that she didn’t see him as dad and this profound loss of relationship that the daughter felt years ago…he’s just big mad that he didn’t get the public “good dad” moment in front of extended family. If he had walked her you just know there’d be people praising him like “you know he’s not even her real dad, what a great guy”

Robert experienced what is commonly known as FAFO. The only AH is him.

Robert never really did anything to try and heal the situation. That's the problem, he had years to seek reconciliation

move on? My dad is not related to me by blood, he's still my dad and my son calls him grandpa. I can guarantee he broke her heart by saying she is not his REAL daughter

either you are her dad...or you are not. Nothing wrong with being a step parent, but if you see her as someone else's kid, she's going to return the favor

My DAD adopted me at six, and I have a step-sister they share, ten years younger than me. Never EVER on ANY PLANET has he ever referred to his "real" daughter as opposed to me. And I'm confident that there's no chance he ever would. That is DEVASTATING, and he made his choices and can live with the consequences. (if that comment were ever made even not in my presence, I'm confident there would be an ultimatum on the table from my mom and it would never be expressed again, overtly or covertly)

Why he doesn't see that his words hurt her? He had a chance to apologize but stuck to his stupid view.

Why would the mother assume it wasn't an issue anymore if the daughter was still addressing him by his first name instead of dad?

What makes this story so heartbreaking is that Sarah never questioned whether Robert was her father until she overheard him telling someone planning a family trip that he only wanted to take his “real children,” meaning the biological twins he had with her mother. Her father had died, Robert had raised her, and she believed they shared the same father-daughter bond he had with his other children. His words didn't simply hurt her feelings. They fundamentally changed her understanding of their relationship. And his inability to recognize the depth of that betrayal suggests he never fully understood how much that bond meant to her in the first place. But here's the question I keep coming back to. What exactly is Robert mourning now? Is he mourning the broken connection with Sarah, or is he mourning the ceremonial privilege of walking her down the aisle? Because if behavior is a language, his behavior is telling us something. He's angry, sulking, emotionally withdrawing, and insisting she should have gotten over something he apparently never meaningfully repaired. He wants the public recognition of fatherhood without confronting the private contradiction he introduced into their relationship. Sarah didn't deny him the role of her real father. She discovered that he had already denied her the place of his real daughter. And rather than trying to understand what that discovery cost her, he seems offended that she won't simply live with it so he can enjoy the honor of giving her away. Her mother also bears some responsibility here if she's more concerned with managing Robert's disappointment than acknowledging her daughter's unresolved hurt. The tragedy isn't that Robert won't get to walk Sarah down the aisle. It's that Sarah lost the father she thought she had, and Robert seems more concerned about losing the ceremony than repairing the relationship. He wants her to behave as though the bond was never broken while refusing to acknowledge that he was the one who broke it.
