✨ Many people don’t know this, but this place in France is often said to be the real-life inspiration for Rapunzel’s castle in Tangled. 📍 Mont-Saint-Michel, located in Normandy in the north of France, is one of the most magical places in Europe. This medieval island has existed for more than 1,300 years. According to legend, in the year 708, the archangel Michael appeared to the bishop of Avranches and asked him to build a sanctuary on this rocky island rising from the sea. Over the centuries, the abbey and village grew into a spectacular fortress-like monastery, sitting on top of the island and surrounded by winding medieval streets. What makes Mont-Saint-Michel even more unique is its extraordinary tides. The sea can move incredibly fast here, sometimes rising up to 14 meters (46 ft), making the island appear and disappear from the mainland. At low tide, you can walk across vast sand flats surrounding the island. At high tide, Mont-Saint-Michel becomes completely surrounded by water again — just like a castle floating in the sea. Because of its unique beauty and history, the site is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts millions of visitors every year. Walking across the bay toward the island, seeing the abbey slowly rise on the horizon, truly feels like stepping into a fairy tale. And honestly… it really does look like the castle from Tangled. 📍 Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy, France
