@morr.travels: 📍Bridal Veil Falls Nantahala National Forest Highlands, North Carolina A 45- to 60-foot roadside waterfall located in the Nantahala National Forest. Situated along U.S. Highway 64 (Mountain Waters Scenic Byway), approximately 2.3 to 2.5 miles west of Highlands, North Carolina, in the Cullasaja River Gorge. Drops roughly 45 to 60 feet (with some historic or total descriptions reaching up to 120 feet depending on the upper cascades). Historically famous as the only waterfall in North Carolina that vehicles could drive underneath on a small loop of roadway. That old road is now closed to automobiles for safety (due to falling rocks and winter ice hazards) and is open strictly for pedestrian/foot traffic. During severe cold spells, the spray freezes to form large ice mounds or a giant column of ice at the base. Cherokee tradition states that a woman who walks behind the waterfall in the spring will be married before the first snow. #nature #Outdoors #waterfall #fyp #travel
