@filmenthusiast: Five years ago today, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune hit theaters, and it proved Frank Herbert’s “unfilmable” book could work on the big screen. It was released during the pandemic, in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day, and still made around $400 million. It later won 6 Oscars, including Cinematography, Editing, Sound, Score, Production Design and Visual Effects, and earned a Best Picture nomination. The heart of that first movie, for me, is Oscar Isaac and Timothée Chalamet. Duke Leto is a calm, warm leader who knows he’s walking into a trap, and he still spends his time preparing his son. Every scene they share feels like a dad trying to give his kid everything before it’s too late. Part Two got bigger and more epic, but Part One is the quiet, emotional foundation for all of it. Do you prefer Dune Part One or Part Two? 👇
