I grew up in Chicago in the 70s. My father played a game with us. We all watched the news together. If there was a crime committed, and there was no photo of the perpetrator, my father would ask each of us to guess the race of the perpetrator. Then he took notes and wrote down our guesses. Later, as he was reading the daily paper, he would cut out the story with the image of the perpetrator. The perp was always white. So after doing this for several months, he asked us to think about what the news was trying to tell us. he asked us why when the perpetrator was black. There was always a photo, but when the perpetrator was white, there was never a photo in the news broadcast. I think I was about six or seven when he taught us about the biases of the news, and how the news intended to portray Black people as criminals and violent while protecting white people from the same interpretation. He made us understand this was done on purpose.

Definitely true. The hard working people get overlooked in Black communities. They are the majority. Also, there are very successful Black people in these neighborhoods as well. They compare their best to our worse when every group has a "lazy" sector.
