It's clear the writing voice of Andrealphus being gay is so that his questionable relationship with his sister wouldn't be interpreted as incestuous, what with the weird, creepy way he acts towards her. Imo, letting him be attracted to women would've made the horrific and twisted aspect of Stella's and his relationship even more disturbing. I don't see the point in this show shying away from such concepts. I mean, it's like everyone says—this show is set in hell. Surely making an evil character have gross, incestuous feelings towards his sister wouldn't be out of place. Especially considering that incest was extremely common with royalty and people of high class back then. This is not me saying "Hell yeah, incest!", as long as it's not romantizied or glorified, it'd just be an effective way to add another layer of fucked up.
